Question. What is Coaching?
A. Coaching is a form of professional support. It is a relationship between a coach and a client, whereby the coach facilitates learning for the client. The coach empowers the client to take action and responsibility, raising their awareness allowing the client to see potential obstacles within their way. Coaching can happen on a 1:1 basis, or delivered to a group.
Question. Is Coaching the same as mentoring or counselling?
A. Coaching is similar to both counselling and mentoring however they do have some key differences.
- Counselling – Counselling is a type of talking therapy. A counsellor is not there to sit and tell you what to do. They will encourage you to talk about what’s bothering you to uncover any root causes and identify your specific ways of thinking. They usually help deal with any of the following; Bereavement, Mental health issues, bullying, trauma, relationships, and other emotional issues.
- Mentoring – Mentors will advise and show you what needs to be done. They are experts in their field and will pass on their experience and expertise onto the client. Coaches will never offer advice, as we believe the client has all the answers.
Question. How do I know coaching is right for me?
A. Coaching isn’t for everyone. Everyone is different and a different approach may be more applicable. However I am more than happy to walk through this with you. As part of the process we will carry out an initial Intake Session. During this session we shall discuss what you want from the relationship and how it works.
Question. Do I have to travel to meet you for coaching sessions?
A. We can either meet and do coaching face to face at a venue convenient to you, or can do sessions via a Telephone, Zoom or Skype. There will be times, if you require some NLP practice, that we would need to be in the same location. This is to ensure you get the best possible experience
Question. I’m not sure what I want, but know that I don’t want what I currently have. Can you work with that?
A. Absolutely! Part of the process is how to set effective goals moving forward and provide you with the clarity you require to set some direction.
Question. What happens during a coaching session?
A. I shall ask many different questions these may range from simple questions, to questions that may be challenging. These are designed to get you thinking about areas from a different perspective and raise your awareness. There will be a section of the session where we will be identifying the various options available to you. There are endless possibilities, but it is down to you as the client to find the options, and identify the one(s) you wish to move forward with. In every session you will require a pen and paper to make notes or some form of note taking device.
